FAQ

What does Performance Equine Hoofcare offer over other local farriers?

A proven track record of long term soundness and performance for your horse.  We believe in quality over quantity when it comes to shoeing horses. We believe that it is our job to stay on top of the latest developments, technology and education and to pass that information onto the horse owner. We offer access and not just ability.  When we service your horse, we don’t just merely show up and shoe the horse and leave.  We evaluate what has been done in the past, offer insight, explain our solution, speak with your veterinarian, and in many cases that involves more time than the actual shoeing job.  When you hire us, you are getting an experienced problem solver with decades of education and experience.  We offer a complete hoof care plan where we design a program that fits your horses needs for the job at hand. In order for this plan to be successful, we must have a cooperative hoof care team consisting of the farrier, vet, trainer and owner all doing their part.  Whether that be performing at a top level or keeping your horse sound, we provide the highest level of service and up to date care.

What do you charge for doing a basic full set of shoes?

We start at $220 for a basic shoeing job.  Additional charges will be applied for difficult horses, neglected hooves, therapeutics, pads, aluminum shoes, clips, sliders, or drilling and tapping for traction devices.  Performance Equine Hoofcare only uses the highest quality shoes manufactured by Vulcan, St. Croix or Mustad.  We use nails specific for your application that are copper or endura coated to ensure a toxic free secure hold.

What do you charge to trim a horse?

We start at $85 for a basic trim.  If the horse has not been serviced in several months and more work is required, we will add additional fees not to exceed $150 total cost.

Do you travel out of town to service horses?

Yes, we travel throughout California and Nevada to service horses.  With the rising cost of diesel fuel, time spent driving, etc. We will discuss this charge before an appointment is made.  If you do not wish to pay travel fees, arrangements can be made to service your horse at our facility.

Do you work with any equine veterinarians?

Yes, we work primarily with Nikki Milici, DVM and Taylor Ludwick, DVM of Bishop Veterinary Hospital.  We also work with Scott Greene, DVM, of Equine Veterinary Care of Nevada in Reno.

What are your specialties?

Promoting sound horses.  We have had great success with laminitis, navicular, hoof distortions, long toe and low heels and just great looking hooves.  Traditionally, horse owners contact us once their horse is having soundness and or performance issues.  But 90% of these issues did not occur suddenly and are a result of issues not being addressed over a long period of time.  The sooner we get your horse on a hoof care plan, the greater the longevity of your horse.
