Terms and Conditions

  • Please have your horse ready for the farrier at the scheduled time.  Ready means collected, fly sprayed, and hooves cleaned.  I have several appointments throughout the day and I adhere to a strict timeline.  If I had to wait 15 minutes for everyone to get their horse for me, that makes me 15 minutes late for the next appointment.

  • Cash or check will be due when services are completed.  We also accept payment via Venmo.

  • Travel fees will be added to the service charge for areas outside of Bishop or Crowley Lake.  Please consult with farrier before you schedule an appointment to determine travel fees. If you do not wish to pay travel fees, arrangements can be made for you and your horse to come to our facility.  Please let us know in advance what your preference is.

  • If your horse is difficult to manage and does not stand well for farrier, a difficult horse service charge will be added.  The farrier is not responsible for training your horse to stand quietly.  If the farrier believes the risk of injury is too high, he may refuse service or reschedule with a vet to sedate your horse.

  • We are no longer booking horses that have not been worked on recently or have been on some form of regular hoof care maintenance.  In my experience, people who neglect to properly maintain their horses hooves, tend to be “pet owners” not “horse people” and their horses are not well behaved and do not stand well for proper farrier work.  I suggest you to hire a trainer to start working with your horse.

  • Please have a level, hard packed area for your horse to be worked on.  Concrete with rubber mats are the best.  This allows the farrier to properly balance a hoof and evaluate your horse's conformation.  Working in a sand pit or in a pasture is unacceptable.  Shade is greatly appreciated and in most cases are requirement for summer shoeing in the high desert.

  • It is the owners responsibility to discipline your horse if the horse is not behaving.  The farrier will work with every horse patiently and has never disciplined a horse in a brutal manner.  The horse may smell or nuzzle the farrier without issue.  But if the horse acts aggressively by trying to bite, kick, or strike at him, the owner should correct the horse in a fair but firm manner to teach the horse that such behavior is unacceptable.

  • Any additional materials used, such as clips, pads, aluminum, sliders, or specialty shoes, the cost will be added to the basic service charge.

  • Farrier will notify client one week before the scheduled appointment and the night before for final confirmation.  If you cannot be there when the services are performed, please make arrangements for payment prior to farrier arrival.

  • Farrier does not administer drugs to the horse.  Farrier leaves that responsibility to the veterinarian or horse owner.

  • Farrier will NOT treat an abscess.  It is against the law.  Farrier can recommend several veterinarians to perform treatment and the farrier will conduct aftercare only.

  • Farrier encourages you as a client to get involved, to learn, to ask and share any thoughts about the trimming and shoeing process.  There is a considerable amount of knowledge and experience that we may share.  The farrier has dedicated his life to this profession in order to provide the best service for your horse(s) and you.  During the appointment, the farrier will make the time to answer questions and share knowledge.  But if you have additional concerns or questions, please ask, email or call.
